Saturday morning we went to the Augusta Farmer's Market.
Our friends Stella, Brad, and Emily met us there and we wandered down the street looking at fruits, vegetables, and other things that were for sale. It was a hot morning, so we started the day off with a cup of cold lemonade.
I thought it was funny that an adult would be running a lemonade stand, but the guy behind the lemons said that his family has been selling lemonade for over 30 years. It was pretty awesome I must say. Must be the fresh lemons.
There was so much that I wanted to buy. One lady was selling cakes and other goodies. Korey couldn't pass up on a slice of red velvet cake, his favorite.
And Brad couldn't pass up the homemade coconut candy.
A lot of the vendors were giving free samples. My favorites were the fresh baked breads
(I bought a loaf of the sourdough)
And the spoonfuls of honey.
The honey man was really interesting. He had books about his hives and Emily got a free education about the birds and the bees....of, well, bees. It was entertaining to say the least.
There were a lot of interesting people at the market. The Cantaloupe Queen was there.
She and several other people were selling homegrown fruits and vegetables.
There wasn't just food there though. We also saw
hand carved canoe paddles
specialty bird houses
green plants
and flowers
pencil sketches
Sno-balls and shaved ice
organic free range chicken
and jazz music street performers.
After we perused the market, we went for a walk by the river.
And then we went to some shops along Broad Street.
What a fun morning...and then I went back to the lab...
Why does a great day have to be dampered by Lab work! Oh the life of being a dental student! We've been wanting to visit the Augusta market! I had no idea there was this much stuff there! That's exciting!
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing Farmer's Market!! I've stayed overnight in Augusta a few times, but not nearly long enough to appreciate the beautiful city. Next time: Must make it to the Farmer's Market!
